Which one are you?

The OZEV rules changed on 1 April 2026. Owner-occupiers with their own driveway have not been eligible since 2022 — but four other groups absolutely are.

Own your house with a driveway?

Honest news: you're not eligible for the £500 grant — it ended for owner-occupiers in 2022. You can still save significantly through smart features, off-peak tariffs and solar integration. We'll show you the real numbers without pretending otherwise.

Frequently asked questions

The five questions UK households actually ask before claiming the £500 OZEV grant. Verified against gov.uk on each content review.

Who can claim the £500 OZEV EV charger grant in 2026?

Four UK groups qualify: private tenants (renters), leasehold flat owners, residential landlords (up to 200 sockets a year), and households without off-street parking who install via a cross-pavement gully. Owner-occupiers with a private driveway have not been eligible since 2022.

When does the OZEV chargepoint grant end?

Funding is confirmed until 31 March 2027 across all four active schemes. The UK government can withdraw the scheme with around four weeks' notice, so we recommend applying as soon as eligibility is confirmed rather than waiting.

How much does an EV charger cost in the UK after the grant?

Charger units run £399 to £1,430. UK installation typically adds £350 to £600. With the £500 OZEV grant deducted by your OZEV-authorised installer, net cost for an eligible household usually lands between £400 and £1,300 — depending on charger choice and electrical work needed.

Do I apply for the OZEV grant myself or does the installer?

Since 1 April 2026, the customer-led model applies: you confirm your eligibility on the gov.uk Find-a-Grant portal, then your OZEV-authorised installer redeems the voucher and deducts £500 from your invoice. You never receive cash directly from the government.

Can renters install an EV charger without owning the property?

Yes. The 2026 Renters & Flat Owners scheme is built specifically for tenants. You need written landlord permission for any wall fixings (we provide a free letter template). The £500 grant applies regardless of tenure as long as the property has off-street parking.
